The pink and white big leaf off the shoulder caftan is made from 100% silk fabric. The silk fabric is dyed by our artisan using a traditional batik technique by drawing out the leaf pattern on a block of wood or foam then the shape is carved out. Hot wax is used as a dye-resist to bring out the leaf print on the fabric when dyeing. Each stamp is placed by hand and the colours are mixed together like an artist. Every yard is painted by hand and no two pieces are exactly alike. Each stamp is placed by hand and the colours are mixed together like an artist. Every yard is painted by hand and no two pieces are exactly alike. It takes 7 yards of fabric to make the caftan. Front and back side seam are joined, A semi-circular sleeve which is more or less like a bishop sleeve is cut with a little excess on the wrist which will be gathered to control the fullness at the same time as a design, the circular ruffle is cut with 1 inch finished cuff fixed in between the sleeve and ruffle to finish the sleeve wrist. The sleeves are fixed on the armhole. The neck is then bound through the sleeves, an elastic is inserted into the binding and this elastic is adjusted to fit off the shoulder comfortably. The bottom skirt is a long piece cut with extra. 2 or more running stitches are sewn to manipulate the fullness to form gathers to fit the hem of the dress. It takes 1 tailor to sew the dress and a day is used to complete the top.
